About

Studio Boyd Architects was founded in 2022 by Neil Boyd, drawing on more than a decade of experience with some of the UK’s most prestigious architectural practices. With a background in handling complex, high-profile projects, Neil established the studio with a vision to create architecture that is both thoughtful and enduring.

The studio approaches each project as a process of discovery, focusing on listening to clients and understanding the unique characteristics of each site. This philosophy ensures that every design is carefully tailored to reflect the individuality of its occupants while harmonising with the surrounding environment. By embracing rigorous design testing through models, drawings, and spatial exploration, the studio ensures that every idea is fully realised before execution, delivering results that combine innovation with craft.

The studio’s work is rooted in long-term thinking, emphasising the use of sustainable materials, low-carbon energy solutions, and strategies such as reusing and re-conditioning buildings to enhance flexibility and longevity. Whether designing for a large-scale development or a private residence, the studio brings the same level of insight and dedication to each project, applying its expertise in crafting thoughtful, environmentally conscious spaces.

As a RIBA, ARB, and RIAS Chartered Practice, Studio Boyd Architects is devoted to delivering designs that stand the test of time, balancing tradition with modern innovation, we ensure that every project not only meets the needs of today but is designed to be cherished for generations to come.

Neil Boyd MArch, BSc(Hons), ARB, RIBA, RIAS

Neil has been a practicing architect since 2013. After graduating from the University of Strathclyde in Glasgow and the Bauhaus-Universität in Weimar, he has worked with some of the UK’s leading architecture studios.  Most recently he spent over 4 years with Stirling prize winning architects, Stanton Williams; working on a variety of high profile residential, cultural, and commercial projects across various scales, including the Museum of London at Smithfield Market, and a luxury residential development in Hampstead. Prior to Stanton Williams, Neil worked for 6 years with the long established Glasgow practice Page\Park. Here he was depute of the studio’s residential team where he delivered award winning private and social housing projects with particular focus on the conservation of historic listed buildings.

Neil has a passion for both the built and natural environment and has a deep interest in how these two conditions can seamlessly blend together and co-exist, both sustainably and experientially. From his years of experience in leading architecture studios as well as an ongoing role as a Masters architectural design tutor at the University of Strathclyde, Neil combines his academic and practice based expertise with a hands on knowledge and understanding of materials and construction. He has been involved in numerous construction projects, from a school re-build in rural Nepal, to forestry regeneration work in California’s Sierra Nevada mountains and a community boat house build in Tiree.

Outside of architecture, Neil enjoys spending time with his young family and keeping fit through running and hillwalking.
